Over the past few months I built a new website packed with information and wanted a simple AI search on the front end to turn the site into a helpful, searchable resource. I didn’t want anything complex — just a lightweight tool that would let visitors ask questions and get direct answers linked to the relevant pages.
At the same time I was evaluating WooCommerce search solutions for a client. As a SquirrlySEO and GhostWP user, I got a notification that Squirrly had released Ask AI (ContentLook). I decided to try it out.
Installation and setup were refreshingly straightforward. The crawler indexed my pages and PDFs without any manual tagging, and adding the embeddable widget only required pasting a short JavaScript snippet (or, if you prefer, installing the WordPress plugin). The interface is uncluttered and focused — you can also promote preset questions to highlight key pages like product listings, booking forms or donation pages.
In use, Ask AI returns concise answers drawn from my actual content and includes direct links to the source pages. That content-first approach means responses feel accurate and useful, and it reduces the risk of hallucinated replies common with generic chatbots. The question logs are particularly valuable: they quickly reveal what visitors are looking for and expose content gaps (for example, queries I hadn’t explicitly answered on the site). That insight alone is worth the tool for planning content updates and prioritising product pages.
Compared with other tools I’ve tried, Ask AI is lighter and more practical. It’s not designed for multi-step transactional chat flows or in-chat payments, so if you need complex automations you’ll need additional integrations. But for making a dense, information-heavy website far easier to navigate — and for helping visitors find and act on high-intent pages — it’s an excellent, low-effort solution.
Overall, I liked the product. It delivered immediate value with minimal setup and helped turn my site into a more usable, conversion-friendly resource. If you want a simple, reliable on-site AI search for content-heavy sites or WooCommerce stores, Ask AI is worth testing on the free tier.
