What We Built
TheSecureNote is a notes app that can't read your notes. Not "won't read" with a pinky promise. Can't read. Mathematically impossible.
Here's how it works.
You visit the site. Pick any username you want. Start typing. When you hit save for the first time, you create a password. That password never leaves your browser. Never gets sent to our servers. Never gets stored anywhere except your own device.
Instead, your browser uses that password to generate an encryption key. Then it encrypts everything you wrote using military-grade AES-256-GCM encryption. Only the encrypted version gets uploaded to our servers.
We store random gibberish. Characters that mean nothing without your password.
When you come back, you enter your password. Your browser decrypts your notes locally. The server never sees your password. Never sees your plaintext. Never has any way to read what you wrote.
That's zero-knowledge encryption.
Why This Matters

The Tradeoff

If you forget your password, your notes are gone. Permanently. We can't reset it. We can't email you a recovery link. We can't help you.
Not because we're being difficult. Because we literally can't. Your notes are encrypted with a key that only your password can generate. Without it, your data is just random noise.
Most apps will tell you that's a bad experience. They'll say users want password recovery. They'll argue convenience beats security.
We disagree.
Any system that can recover your password can be forced to hand over your data. Law enforcement with a warrant. Hackers with the right exploit. Rogue employees with database access.
We built a system where that's impossible. Where even if someone held us at gunpoint and demanded your notes, we'd have nothing to give them.
That's the tradeoff. Lose your password, lose your data. But nobody else can ever access it either.
