The story behind GlobeFlix
GlobeFlix was born out of a real problem we faced during our long-distance relationship. My partner was in Egypt, I was in the UK, and we loved watching movies and TV shows together — even remotely. But we kept running into the same frustration: Netflix (and other streaming platforms) have different content libraries depending on the country. We’d find something great to watch, only to realize it wasn’t available in both our regions. This happened over and over again, making it feel like we had to settle instead of enjoying the best options.
So we built GlobeFlix
It’s a simple web app that helps you find movies and TV shows available in both your country and a friend’s. You can filter by platform (Netflix, Disney+), movie vs. TV show, genre, and even sort by release date or rating — so you don’t waste time scrolling through unavailable content.
Right now, it supports 45 countries and 2 streaming services, but if enough people use it, we’ll upgrade to a more comprehensive API to expand coverage.
We currently have 20 active users on GlobeFlix, and are aiming to grow slowly as we add more features.
Planned future updates include new search pages for VPN-users, such as single country search (to see all titles available in a single country) and title search (to see in which country titles are available), as well as quality of life features such as watchlisting searched titles.
