Started building a solution for people confused about what to cook!
I was struggling to find what to cook with the ingredients that I have on-hand, which I then end up throwing away at the end of every week, and I decided to work on a solution.
I tried a few cooking apps that allow you to get recipes based on ingredients, but the input process was lengthy, and the apps just didn't feel intuitive.
I asked around 50 people who had moved away from home, managing their own groceries and cooking their own food, and found out something interesting...
When someone doesn't cook something on a given day, its mainly due to 3 reasons -
-Time constraint
-Confusion about what to cook with the ingredients on-hand
-Lack of motivation
So I made an app that allows you to click just one picture of your ingredients, and the recipes are then shown in a tinder-esque manner, which the user can just swipe.
Swipe right to save the dish for later, swipe left to discard and swipe up to cook the dish right now.
Since I'm horrible at cooking regularly, I included a daily streak feature like Duolingo and Snapchat, which allows you to keep a track of the no. of times you've cooked on a given week.
The app also sends you notifications when an ingredient is nearing expiration.
This is done through an algorithm which estimates the shelf life of ingredients (the app asks you to input a single date of purchase of the items that you've bought)
