We're increasing daily launches to 30

After months of reflection, we're doubling down on keeping Uneed free and accessible by increasing daily product launches from 20 to 30.

Hi everyone!

Today we're announcing a significant change to Uneed: we're increasing the number of products launched every day from 20 to 30.

This is the result of months of reflection, and we want to share our thought process with you.

Two challenges

Since Uneed started growing, we've been facing two challenges:

  1. The quality of products being published
  2. The quantity of products we can launch every day

These are two very different problems, and they require very different solutions.

Tackling quality

For the past three months, we've been actively working on improving the quality of products launched on Uneed. We've added quality filters, we're reviewing submissions more carefully, and we're refusing a significant number of products that don't meet our standards.

This is an ongoing effort, and it's completely separate from today's announcement. Quality will always be a priority.

The quantity dilemma

The quantity problem is trickier. With a growing waiting line, makers have to wait longer and longer before their product gets its launch day. We only had two realistic options:

  1. Increase the number of daily launches
  2. Make the waiting line paid

Why we're not going paid (again)

Last year, we chose to make the waiting line paid for three months, then reopened it for free. In terms of revenue, it was a very positive experience.

But we've decided not to do it again, for one simple reason: we want Uneed to remain free.

When you're a student building your first side project, when you're not sure if launch platforms are even useful for you, when you simply don't have the budget to pay for a spot in a queue -- you shouldn't have to. And when the waiting line is paid, we lose access to potentially amazing products from makers who can't or won't pay.

That's a tradeoff we're not willing to make.

The decision: 20 to 30

So we're going the other way: increasing from 20 to 30 products launched every day on the homepage.

Why we believe this works

Here's the thing: what we observe every single day on Uneed is that quality products always end up in the top 5. It doesn't matter how large their audience is, how much money they have, or how much they promote their launch. Great products rise to the top.

We're making a bet that this will remain true with more products. More launches means more diversity, more chances for great products to be discovered, and shorter waiting times for everyone.

What this means for you

If you're currently in the waiting line, your launch date may have been moved forward. You should receive an email notification with your updated date.

If you have any questions or concerns about your new launch date, simply reply to the notification email and we'll sort it out.

Thank you for being part of Uneed. Let's keep building!

Thomas
