I built Dictato because every dictation app I tried had a problem. Cloud-based ones send your audio to servers. Subscription ones cost $12/month forever. Apple's built-in dictation cuts you off after 60 seconds.

So I made something different.

Dictato runs entirely on your Mac. No servers, no accounts, no internet connection needed. You speak, text appears at your cursor. That's it.

It works in any app — Gmail, Slack, VS Code, Notion, whatever. The text goes directly where you're typing, not into some floating window you have to copy from.

You get three transcription engines. Parakeet is the fastest (80ms). Whisper handles 99 languages. Apple's engine needs no download. Switch whenever you want.

If you're on macOS 15+, Apple Intelligence can clean up your transcription — fix grammar, remove filler words. There's also translation to 30 languages built in. Everything stays on your Mac.

The license is $9.99 for two years. No subscription. After it expires, the app keeps working — you only pay again if you want future updates.
