Children's clothing exchange by size, near home

Colmena is a private children's clothing exchange circuit for families in Barcelona.

The problem it solves is simple: kids outgrow clothes fast, but finding the next size on general platforms like Vinted or Wallapop takes too long. Listings are item-by-item, poorly described, and spread across the city. Families end up spending an hour to save five euros — or giving up and buying new.

Colmena works differently. Clothes circulate in standardised bundles, grouped by size band and season. Every bundle is reviewed by a human moderator before it goes live — so condition claims are backed by photos, not just seller descriptions. Pickup is local and coordinated directly between families, with no shipping.

The exchange runs on a credit economy: giving earns credits, which can be used to receive. No cash changes hands in the core transaction. This keeps the focus on circulation rather than resale value.

Access is invite-only for now. The pilot launches in Barcelona with a single neighbourhood cluster. Families who aren't invited yet can leave their email and request access. Invites go out in paced waves to keep supply and demand in balance from the start.

The model is designed to expand to other cities and clusters without changing its core shape — one community at a time, with enough density to make local pickup practical.

Colmena is currently in private beta. Early families can request an invite at colmenita.com.
