Most creatives I know have been "working on their portfolio" for about three years.

I was one of them. I remember setting up my first portfolio site and never finished it because I simply could not decide if it was "ready" for the public and it stayed unpublished for an embarrassing amount of time. Every time I sat down to fix it, I'd end up redesigning the layout, second-guessing the typography, picking a new font, then closing the laptop and going back to "brainstorming".
